2012 March Madness: What To Expect

Fans and the press are having fun predicting the outcome of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Everyone from odds makers in Las Vegas to average sports fans at home are taking sides on the outcome. Since it’s a single elimination tournament, your team either wins or goes home. The number one seeds Kentucky, Syracuse, UNC, and Michigan State are all looking like fine contenders this year. Let’s take a closer look at what may happen.

In the South, many are calling the Kentucky’s starting five the best in the nation. There is little disagreement that Anthony Davis is a special talent. Another talented squad is Baylor, who was long considered a number one seed. However, five losses in their last eleven games knocked the Bears down to the number three seed.

Big things are expected from the Syracuse Orange in the East, but the team to watch may be the hot Florida State Seminoles, who upset Duke and North Carolina to win the ultra-competitive ACC tournament.

Moving onto the West, Big 10 champ Michigan State’s Tom Izzo has an amazing track record in the tournament, so it would be tough to bet against the Spartans.

In the Midwest, North Carolina has Kendall Marshall and Harrison Barnes, both forces to be reckoned with. The Tarheels also enter the tournament as the nation’s top rebounding team. But watch Kansas closely because if you combine Thomas Robinson with Tyshawn Taylor, the result could be a nearly unstoppable basketball superhero!

No one knows what’s going to happen. In fact, by the time you read this, things likely would have already changed. Have a blast watching the tournament and good luck playing Lightspeed’s Million Dollar College Basketball Bracket Challenge!
